Hazmat Extreme did not fare well in the prelims, but Hazmat pushed on to take a 3rd place finish. Special thanks to Paul Welsh from Win Inc for filling in at the last minute!

2002

2002.10.13 -- The season ends!! Team Hazmat opted to not play the final leg of the Polar Bear 3 man events, but in the spirit of the game we lent our support to the circuit by providing staff to both the Polar bear and NCPA events. Team members worked air fills and refereed the National Collegiate Paintball Association 5 Man games. We would also like to welcome Chris Raehl, President of the NCPA as the newest member for the Hazmat organization!

2002.09.28 -- The end of the season is drawing near with the final Polar Bear 5 Man event. Hazmat withstood the rain and cold to lock up a 3rd place finish for the tournament and 4th place overall for the season.

2002.09.15 -- Hazmat & Hazmat Extreme attended the Polar Bear 3 Man #4 at Zumbro Valley Paintball. Day 1 was marked with heavy rain and lots of mud, giving way to clear skies on day 2. Hazmat Extreme narrowly missed the semi-finals while Hazmat secured a 5th place finish. This event also marks the final tournament appearance of Matt Anderson as he retires to prepare for the birth of his first child. Matt will always have a valued position with the team and we thank him for 2 years of hard work!

2002.08.25 -- With the addition of new players Andy "Sonic" Bofferding and Luke Dulgar, Team Hazmat has expanded it's 3 man presence to two teams. Both Hazmat and Hazmat Extreme attended the 1st Annual Spirit Mountain Extreme Tournament in Duluth,MN. Hazmat narrowly missed the finals losing a tie-breaking game to Synergy and taking 5th place. Hazmat Extreme pressed forward to secure the 2nd place trophy and $300 cash in their first tournament appearance!

2002.08.10 -- Team Hazmat participated in the 2nd Polar Bear 5 Man, missing the semi-finals by a handful of points, but added valuable seed points to maintain our 4th place overall standing.

Hazmat was honored for their hard work throughout the year with the presentation of the Hardest Working Team award for 2002.

2002.07.21 -- EXPERIENCE OF A LIFETIME -- This weekend Members of Team Hazmat had the opportunity to learn from and play with the pro's from the ALL AMERICANS. Todd Hugo along with All A's / Smart Parts founders Billy & Adam Gardner taught a players clinic at SBI in Rosemount MN on Sat 7/20 and then joined Hazmat, Cypress and Win Inc at our home field PGI for a day of 10 man scrimmages on Sun 7/21.  The games were VERY intense and there were many lessons learned. An article written by Garrett Caldwell about the events was published on the Minnesota Paintball Internet Guide

2002.07.13 -- The third Polar Bear 3 Man was held at PGI in Baldwin, WI. Matt Anderson rejoined the active roster following spinal surgery and along with Matt May, Jeff Thelen and Garrett Caldwell contributed to a 10th place finish.

2002.06.02 -- Team Hazmat participated in the 2nd Polar Bear Tournament Series 3 Man event this weekend. Unfortunately things just did not gel the way they ought to have and the team missed the semi-finals. We look forward to Polar Bear #3

2002.05.18 -- Team Hazmat competed in the 1st leg of the new 5-Man series of the Polar Bear Tournament Circuit. The event was held at Team Hazmat's home field, PGI in Baldwin, WI. The team advanced to the semi finals and thanks to a perfectly executed "triple-star" play in our final game advanced to the finals and took a 4th place finish. The conclusion of this tournament also marks the beginning of what we hope will be a short break in Matt Anderson's paintball career as undergoes neck surgery this week. Please join the rest of the team in wishing Matt a speedy recovery.

2002.05.03 -- Team Hazmat would like to announce the addition of Jeff Thelen to our roster. Formerly captain of Phules Company, Jeff has joined the team's 5 Man roster, but will continue to play with The Wild Bunch for the 3 Man Polar Bear events. A longtime friend of Team Hazmat, Jeff will prove to be a valuable addition to the team.

2002.04.21 -- The 2002 Polar Bear Circuit started off with a bang this weekend at Diehard Paintball in Ramsey MN. Saturday morning marked the preliminary games under sunny skies and 30 to 50 degree temps. Team hazmat finished our prelim games with a score of 512, landing a 3rd place spot into the semi-finals. Sunday was a completely different story... A freak winter storm gripped the area bringing cold temps and several inches of SNOW, however this is Minnesota after all and play continued. Stiff competition and weather related equipment failures prevented Hazmat from reaching the finals by a mere 17 points, however valuable seed points were earned towards the overall 2002 title. Worthy of mention is a semi finals game where equipment failures left Matt May as the only player with a working marker on the field, and he pulled off a magnificent triple star eliminating all 3 opponents!
